Out of Comission For a While!!

Hey Ladies.. This all started with a tooth ache. My tooth started hurting on Sunday by Sunday night I had a little swelling. Monday morning a little pain still swelling. Monday night, severe swelling and excruciating pain. Tuesday, I went to the dentist and was given antibiotics and pain reliever. I have to take it for ten days total but go back to the dentist on Monday. I am left with a face that looks like I was in a serious boxing match and got my ass whooped. My eye on the right side of my face is completely shut.. I am in so much pain. Have any of you ladies ever had an abscess? If yes, what did your dentist suggest as a course of treatment? My dentist suggest that I save the tooth by having a root canal, I am thinking I just want this diseased tooth out of my mouth. Anyone have any advice. Se'ymone

I am so sorry you had to go through such pain!I have tons of problems with my teeth: cavities, root canals, crowns. The problems run in the family.
When I had an abscess, it was a tooth removal gone bad i.e they forgot to take out some tissue or a nerve and the pain was terrible!! They did a treatment and I was all set. I would say save the tooth. Do you also have a cavity in it? will you need a crown or just a root canal? take care of yourself. hugs

Hey girl when I had an abscess with one of my wisdom teeth my doctor went real proactive on my ass and removed all four of them!
I think I would rather have it gone too that way you wouldn't have to worry about it again.

Hope you recover soon. I wasn't a pretty site when I had my surgery done either...but the pain pills....man that was some good sleep there LOL!
*Can you tell I'm sleep deprived now! I'm up here thinking about past times of good sleep LOL*

Nywele: Thanks for the well wishes.. My dentist wants to do a root canal, filling, and then cap. The pain is so excrutiating. Then the swelling makes one side of my face so heavy.

Shawnta: I am so glad ur back.. I hope u have been alright. You always make me laugh. I cannot lie, I get some good sleep with the pain relievers.

Hey Seymone, Sorry you are going through the tooth ache blues. Let me tell you from experience I know your pain. Depending on the tooth I say remove that bad boy. About a year and a half ago I had two abscesses one on my wisdom tooth and one on the tooth next to it. My abscess was so bad that it started to decay my bone structure resulting in me having to have a minor surgery and bone grafting and an implanted tooth. Please take the medicine and another thing that helps is garlic. I know your thinking garlic is stinky but if you take a slice and place it over the infected area and press down on it it extracts the infection and relieves the pain. I hope your mouth feels better soon.

Wow Slvrlips that is crazy with the bone grafting.. I am so glad you made it through alright. I will try garlic. I am 28 and never had wisdom teeth come in. I guess that is a great thing.

Hello Seymone. I just wanted to check in and see if you're feeling better. The garlic is really a good tip. In Swahili cultures, we also use cloves. Chew up two cloves and it relieves pain. Let us know what you decide to do.Removing the tooth might be better in the long-term..

Nywele: You are so sweet. Thanks again for checking.. I tried the garlic this morning and it made my gums tingle like blood was rushing there or something.. The pain did subside some. I am going to pull the tooth on Monday, it is way to the back of my mouth so you cant see it.

Eva: Hey Eva.. If your teeth are hurting go to the dentist please because I do not wish what I am going thru on anyone.. I will send you some pics as soon as my face goes back to normal. I wouldn't want to scare you at this point. LOL

Yup don't play with mouth. A friend of my cousin died from a tooth infection. She had a bad cause of lupus so her immune system was already compromised but the infection is what took her over.
I know every thing will go fine on Monday and you will be in tip top shape in no time. Thanks girl for all your encouragement over at my blog. I'm starting to get my blogging swagger back LOL!
BTW I tagged you for you 5 Must Not have Items!

Shawnta: You are scaring the crap out of me. There is this guy that I know whose wife died from having her tooth pulled. Bled to death in her sleep.

I say, if you can save the tooth, save the tooth. Just make sure it's sealed very well. But that's me.

I don't remember what I had, but I had to get a root canal done. I don't remember my mouth being in much pain beforehand so it probably wasn't abscess. But the root canal I had was actually painless as well as the recovery. All I can say is get a very good person who specializes in root canals because I've heard others whose root canals weren't so hot.

I hope it all goes well hun. Good luck and treat yourself to some ice cream and MAC after ;)

I am actually going thru the same thing right now.
I had this bubble on my gum, didn't know what it was and it didnt hurt, but my back molar was kinda loose. went to the dentist they told me that i had an abcsess and looks like it was going into my bone as well. The only solution was Root Canal.
They gave me antibiotic to try to stop the infection from spreading. I knew that I need the Root Canal or else loose the teeth. I had to also get one of my root canal retreated which sucked because I paid out of pocket for the first time i had to do it, but now to find out it didn't work.
I had the first portion done on tuesday, the doctors drilled and took out all of the infection and put some temporary filling. next week i will go complete the process. Root canal does not hurt and cheaper than removing the teeth and doing bridge work etc.

Mine was horrible. Delirious with pain and the painkillers did NOTHING. Had a root canal and crown which was indeed the right thing to do. I looked much worse before than after though.

I actually had a root canal last week! I say go ahead and have it done. I was sooooo scared about it, but in the end I'm so glad I did it. It was virtually painless -- seriously I didn't feel anything after the Novacane injections and even after the Novacane wore off, I just popped a few Aleve tablets and that was all.

Good luck!
